How many times have you heard “coffee makes your heart race and causes arrhythmia”. How about “Drink coffee and you will get cancer.” “If you want brittle bones just keep drinking that cup of Jo.” Coffee may not be classified as a health food but it could come close. Harvard researchers analyzed data on 126,000 people for over 18 years and found compared with non coffee drinkers, those who drink one to three cups of caffeinated coffee daily can reduce diabetes risk by single digits. Dr. Jody George with southwest daily news reports that in recent decades, over 20,000 studies have been done examining coffee’s impact on health. Conclusions of these studies have shown that coffee poses very little risk for most people, and actually offers some surprising health benefits, including lowering the risk of diabetes and certain types of cancer, beneficial treatments for headaches, Parkinson’s disease (up to 80% of regular drinkers) and depression. Anyone who drank coffee before taking a test knows it helps to keep alert, especially after those al nighters. But wait there is more! Two cups of coffee a day reduced colon cancer by 25%. Regular coffee drinkers had a 80% drop in liver cirrhosis risk and nearly half the risk of gallstones. How many dentist recommend coffee? Some studies showed a reduction of cavities. (Although probably an increase in teeth cleaning and whitening) Morning drinkers performed better in the workplace and had better retention. Coffee drinkers, according to further studies had better psychomotor skills, long term memory, and attention. Rest easy no studies have ever shown that coffee will stunt your growth or grow hair on your chest. However it does not go well with insomnia.

Women who drink Fair Wage Coffee could live longer. Youjin Je, a doctoral student at the Harvard School of Public Health, said that for healthy non-pregnant women, drinking four cups of coffee a day had a 25% lower risk of endometrial cancer, the most common uterine cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, there are about 46,000 new cases and 8,000 deaths yearly from the disease. The study followed 67,470 women aged 34 to 59 from 1980 to 2006. Neither decaffeinated coffee nor tea drinking was associated with a risk reduction, and the authors drew no conclusions about whether caffeine or some other ingredient in coffee causes the effect. The study was published online Nov. 22 in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. Youjin Je, goes on to say that “a substantial amount of sugar, cream or milk added to coffee can negate the potential benefits.”This is where Fair Wage Coffee is an important source for black coffee that is easy to drink. We specialize in single origin, direct relationship, high altitude, shade grown, organic coffees then with our hand crafted roasting, produce a mild, flavorful, smooth cup of coffee you can easily drink four cups of without an upset stomach. Our Papua New Guinea and Oaxaca coffees often get reviews from former cream and sugar users with testimonials like “Wow I can actually enjoy the full flavor of coffee now” (de) and “This is the only coffee I can drink black and enjoy it” (et)So what are you waiting for? Drink Fair Wage Coffee so you can “live long and prosper.”

Eight years ago, Lao was one of the poorest farmers in his remote village in San Miguel. To get his crop to market, he had to go through the local “coyote” loan shark who gave him next to nothing for his crop. Through Growers First, we were able to help Lao yield a higher quality crop and get a better price. Through our micro-credit loans, Lao expanded his farm. He is now the leader of his co-op and an inspiration to farmers in the community. Last year, Lao sold his crop for $10,693, a 500% increase in his income since 2006. Which keeps his wife, Matia, happy and making plenty of her special rattlesnake tamales. They go perfect with coffee.
